OUR HOTEL NEAR TO MONTMARTRE,
the Sacré-Coeur, Place du Tertre...
Montmartre, the eternal village of Paris, is just a few minutes from Hôtel Abrial. Every street and staircase on the hill, largely covered by vines until the 19th century, could tell a tale about a painter, writer or poet. Entire chapters of art history were written there. At the time, Montmartre attracted artists as they could stay there cheaply, and the famous “Marché aux Modeles” was held at the Place Pigalle.
Place de Clichy, near the hotel, is the ideal starting point to discover Montmartre. The less courageous can take the cable car, which links the bottom to the Sacré-Coeur. The Sacré-Coeur basilica, started in 1876 by the architect Paul Abadie, was only completed in 1914 thanks to a contribution. Its tall white silhouette and curious Roman-Byzantine style attracts 11 million visitors each year. If you are ready to climb another 300 steps, don't forget to visit the Dome from the outside of the Basilica on the left side to admire an unbelievable view spanning 30 km during clear weather.
Afterwards, take a stroll through Place du Tertre, the former Montmartre village square, later an exhibition space for the capital’s portrait artists. In the streets lined with small houses, discover the Moulin de la Galette, immortalised by Renoir’s work “Bal du Moulin de la Galette”, or even the vines of Montmartre, whose harvest is the focus of a wonderful festival which is held throughout the district at the start of autumn.
