A HOTEL 10 MINUTES' WALK
from the Place de Clichy and the Moulin Rouge
Looking to leave the village of Batignolles for a pleasant escape in the heart of busy Paris? Rue Lemercier and Avenue de Clichy, just a short walk from the hotel, lead you straight to Place de Clichy, one of the most famous locations in Paris. At the crossroads between four arrondissements (8th, 9th, 17th and 18th), the square was completely redesigned in 2010 with a central tree-filled terrace focusing on pedestrians and cyclists.
Day and night, Parisians and tourists like to meet here to go to lunch, dinner or to have a drink at one of the many surrounding establishments, such as the Welper Brasserie, a Paris institution. Moviegoers can take in the show of their choice at one of the district's cinemas. The square is also the starting point for several walks, particularly to get to Montmartre (the Sacré-Coeur basilica, Place du Tertre, the cemetery...). The square is watched over by the statue of Marshall Moncey, at the centre of the square, celebrating the courageous defence against the Russian invasion in 1814.
Just a 5 minute walk from Place Clichy, the most famous cabaret in the world - the Moulin Rouge - shines brightly in the evening at Place Blanche. The scarlet tower and sails of the windmill are a sight to behold. The current Moulin Rouge is identical to the one designed by Oller and Zidler in 1889, who had already created the Olympia on Boulevard des Capucines.
The French Cancan made it a success, and by inspiring Toulouse-Lautrec, ensured that it remains eternally famous!
